In 2020, COVID caused a devastating blow to the events industry. In the space of a month, the entire industry underwent a dramatic shift and virtual events became the norm. The online events sector had been growing for some time, and GoRemote’s founders Ben and Gus had both helped deliver complex hybrid and virtual events.
In demand due to their prior experience, Ben and Gus spent the first few weeks of the pandemic helping existing clients make the transition from in-person to virtual events. It was clear however after delivering a number of large-scale events, something was amiss. Speakers were struggling to adapt to the new format and technicians were battling to juggle speaker support with the demands of the new technology. This in turn was impacting on the quality of delivery.
They quickly realised that the missing piece of the puzzle was effective stage management. In the physical world, Stage Managers greet, brief and support speakers, ensuring they are prepared and confident ahead of their sessions. In the virtual world, speakers might be asked to join a conference with little or no professional support or preparation. The digital events world needed Virtual Stage Managers.

With a large existing network of highly experienced event managers and producers, Ben and Gus assembled a team with the skills to serve the new needs and challenges faced by the industry. Supported by newly developed bespoke systems cooked up by Luke to assist in delivering remote stage management, they were confident that GoRemote could help raise the bar in the delivery of virtual events.
Fast-forward just a few months and the team has provided Virtual Stage Managers for a number of prestigious virtual events in various industry verticals, receiving plaudits for their performance along the way. From webinars to large international congresses, GoRemote has already helped hundreds of speakers, from government ministers to Nobel prize winners, reach their virtual stage looking and sounding great.
Confident, happy and prepared speakers have a significant impact on the overall event experience. A well-managed speaker journey means fewer issues for the production team, more engaging sessions, and ultimately a superior event and audience experience. This is where GoRemote can make a difference.
We don’t know how long the current situation will last, or indeed what the post-coronavirus world will look like, but we are confident events involving remote speakers are here to stay, and so is GoRemote!
